Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at stardom with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels and then dropped by both labels before any recordings had been released. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received little attention for its jolly flippant song. Perry became a bigger star a few months later, with the single I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a sharp electro-pop beat. The track sparked debate, with some critics accusing that it promoted sexual relations between men and women, while others saying that the sexually explicit scene was created for male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world because of its mix of excitement and an elegant melodic tune. The song also assisted her to sell more albums, including The One of the Boys. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album that Perry composed herself, eventually saw sales of more than three million copies in the United States.
